This setting looks like it was in a studio. Quite the contrary. This casual, relaxed session took place right outside their backdoor on their own couch! While most families come to the beach specifically for their lifetime of memories, The Ortega Family gets to make those memories every day, by calling Santa Rosa Beach home. On this particular day, I was given the opportunity to capture a ‘day in the life’ of these adorable little boys. Other clients can’t exactly set up their session on this porch, however, the setting of Santa Rosa is absolutely accessible. A secluded, private beach without costing an arm and a leg. Perfectly secluded for family memories to be created and captured. This beach setting offers miles of white sand beach, and let’s not forget lovely sunsets. This family had the use of their own private facilities and parking spots, but one of the things I love about Santa Rosa is its own restrooms and parking. No long treks or leaving your car on the side of the road.
One of my favorite parts of how I do photography is not only taking pictures, but it is the precious families that I get acquainted with, leading up to their session. Kristy and I met via Facebook Market Place. We share a love for bargains and interior design. We were fast friends when we discovered we had a common ground for decorating, mutually loving how the other one designed rooms. Imagine my delight when I learned that she and her husband, JJ, own their own company – K & J Design Group. It was a match made in heaven (interior design heaven, that is!!)
The Ortega Family believes in chasing their dreams (yet another thing we shared in common) and offering a quality of life, bar none, for their three boys. Kristy and JJ moved their three, rambunctious boys, all under the age of four – Knox, Owen, and Baby Jack – from Atlanta. A move like this can be scary, uprooting, what you really know and all that is familiar. However, Kristy and JJ believe that pursuing a dream outweighs being comfortable in your ways; more importantly, setting that example for their three sons. In the time I spent with this family of five, it was clear that there are no airs about the Ortega’s. This entire time was casual. Easy going. No fanfare. Simply smiles, giggles, lots of hugs and lots of kisses.
Every shot captures the strong bond this family shares. It is difficult to determine who is prouder of that baby boy – mom and dad or those two older brothers!!! I have to say, though, my favorite is where the Knox and Owen are peeking over the edge of the crib, I can almost hear them conspiring, “Don’t worry, little dude, we’ll getcha out of here. We’ll teach you all there is to know on the outside. And don’t let dad fool ya – mom is totally in charge here.” Kristy’s favorite image was the one during the tickle session.
Baby Jack seals the deal! This family of five will remain as such. However, I am looking forward to watching these boys grow! Future sessions are definitely on the horizon of a few more sunsets.
I’d love to talk to you about photographing your family in Santa Rosa Beach or along the 30a. Check out my pricing page to discover details and availability information. To learn more about me, Alyssa, take a look at my about page.
